Rick Spell
Richard Allan (“Rick”) Spell is a Managing Director at RAYMOND JAMES® and President of Raymond James Mortgage Company, Inc. Since 1991 he has managed the loan trading operation primarily responsible for trading consumer, residential and commercial loans in volumes averaging over $1.5 billion per year. In addition, he oversees the card payments operation which specializes in consulting and advising financial institutions in all aspects of the payments processing and credit card issuing business. Raymond James has represented over 100 financial institutions from $500 million to $100 billion in asset size in the sale and/or ongoing partnership of their merchant processing or credit card issuing operation.
In 1985, Rick began his investment banking career assisting political entities in evaluating their capital structure and access to the fixed income market. In 1986, he formed a start-up secondary mortgage market operation for a regional investment banking firm to assist financial institutions in the purchase and sale of residential mortgage product.
Rick attended The University of Memphis graduating with honors in August, 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He attained his Certified Public Accountant Certificate for the state of Tennessee in November of 1981 and spent four years with the international accounting firm of Ernst & Whinney.
In 1998, Rick was named Honorary City Councilman in recognition of his “Outstanding Contribution to the City of Memphis”. Rick is currently a member of the University of Memphis Board of Visitors which is “comprised of prominent business and community leaders who serve as advisors to the President” as well as the University of Memphis Foundation Board of Trustees. Rick is the former President of the fundraising board for the University of Memphis Athletic Department and is a lifetime Ambassador Club member representing the highest level of financial contributions to the athletic department.
